Avimimus


Avimimus was a fast-running dinosaur that lived during the Late Cretaceous period in Mongolia. Its name means "bird mimic". This bird-like dinosaurs may have had feather. Avimimus was a small theropod that reached 1 meter long and 15 kg weight. Its main features are a very short tail and very long legs.


It had small skull with big eyes. Avimimus was probably omnivore. It ate small animals, insects, eggs and some plants. Avivimus moved on two athletic legs. It could reach speed of 70 kilometers per hour. It is as fast as ostrich, the strongest and the biggest modern bird. It was found in Mongolia and described by russian paleontologists and officially by Sergei Kurzanov in 1981.
