Aucasaurus was a medium-sized theropod that lived 83 million years ago in Argentina. Its name means "auca lizard". Approaching 4 meters long and weighing only 700 kg, it was smaller than its close relative Carnotaurus, but it had the same features such as extremely reduced arms. It is the most completed Abelisaurid ever found.
Aucasaurus was a better adapted hunter than related Carnotaurus and it may have hunted different types of prey. Aucasaurus was found with its broken skull that means it fought to the death. Probably the hunted in packs and their hunting strategy was similiar to modern wolves.
