Alxasaurus

Axasaurus means "Alxa desert lizard". This reptile lived around 112 million years ago during the Early Cretaceous in China. This speedy predator was 4 meters long and only 400 kilos weight.

This dinosaur is the most complete theropod ever found in Asia. It was one of the first member of a group of theropods known as therezinosaurus. They had heavy, long claws. Alxasaurus had a small head and it had some features similiar to much earlier dinosaur.

Five Alxasaurus skeletons were recovered from the Bayin-Gobi Formation of Inner Mongolia. This dinosaur was first described and named by Canadian paleontologist Dale Russell and his Chinese colleague, Dong Zhiming, in a paper published in 1993.
