Barapasaurus

Barapasaurus is a sauropod dinosaur that lived during Early Jurassic in Asia. Its name means "big leg lizard". Barapasaurus is tha oldest known sauropod. It may have evolved from a prosauropod ancestor.

Barapasaurus proves that even the earliest sauropod could be a giant. It reached 18 meters long and could weighed 48 tons. Barapasaurus was huge, wasn't it? Barapasaurus was similar to the prosauropods. But his size, legs and vertebrae prove that it belongs to sauropod.
Its skeleton mounted in India where dinosaurus are rare. Skeleton includes mostly leg bones and vertebrae. The skull wasn't found, but several teeth were.

Relatives of Barapasaurus include Cetiosaurus from northern Africa and England, Patagosaurus and Volkheimeria from southern South America, Amygdalodon from Argentina, Lapparentosaurus from Madagascar, and possibly Rhoetosaurus from Australia. Descendants of Barapasaurus and its relatives dominated the Jurassic world.
